James Parnell’s Career Highlights and Qualifications

  • AMSA Marine Safety Inspector
    • 4 years conducting vessel inspections, reviewing vessel safety management systems, investigating incidents, and handling administrative duties such as issuing Certificates of Operation and Survey.
  • Serco Defence/DMS Maritime at Garden Island
    • 4 years as Eastern Australian Support Group Manager.
    • Responsible for all naval support craft, fuelling of warships, maintaining operational preparedness of all naval RHIBs, and providing tugs and berthing arrangements for warships on the eastern seaboard.
  • Sydney Ferries
    • 8 years in various roles, including:
    • Day Operations Manager
    • Outer Harbour Service Manager for Manly Ferries
  • Diving Instructor and Charter Boat Skipper
    • 10 years in the Whitsunday region as a diving instructor, charter boat skipper, and commercial diver.
    • Contributed to constructing the first marina berths at Hamilton Island and installing moorings throughout the Whitsunday Islands.

Clayton Scott

Clayton Scott

Associate Director

Clayton Scott brings a wealth of experience and qualifications in maritime engineering, diving, environmental science, and occupational health and safety to our company. He began his career as a Navy Clearance Diver.

Following his naval service, Clayton pursued a successful career as a commercial diver, participating in construction projects across Australia. As a Master SCUBA Diver Trainer, he established a dive shop where he trained divers for a number of years.

Clayton holds extensive experience and qualifications in the maritime industry as a Master 4 and MED 2. He has also skippered tugboats in Newcastle Harbour and operated several diving vessels.

Clayton worked for Sydney Ferries for a number of years as a master on the Manly run, operating both high-speed Jetcats and the larger Manly Ferries. He progressed to Fleet Operations Manager. In this role, he managed the fleet and project-managed several significant maritime infrastructure projects, including the rebuilding of the iconic Manly Wharf.

Clayton has a Bachelor of Arts in Marine Ecology and an Honours degree in Marine Ecology with a focus on benthic impacts. He also studied Occupational Health and Safety, ultimately receiving an Advanced Diploma in OHS.
